Psychotherapy for high-achieving individuals in NYS with a significant mental health and/or substance use history

Were you on a path to finding and reaching your dreams when mental health or substance use issues got in your way?

Had you already found a life you wanted when you fell off the track?

Is the worst of that ordeal behind you and you are now struggling to reinvent yourself and rediscover your path?

I work with bright, driven individuals who are on their way back up from darkness to light, from illness and disorder to recovery and mental health.

If you have been through the hell of psychiatric hospitalizations, PTSD, suicidal episodes, bipolar disorder, depression, addictive behaviors, etc., and have already done the work to get out of the worst of it, I can help you along the next steps of the journey to build up your life again.

Once your symptoms are under control, where do you go next? How do you create/re-create a life?

Emy Zener, LCSW-R (she/her)
Psychotherapist

I work with you to discover that RECOVERY is REAL, and to find out what that means for you as an INDIVIDUAL.

It can mean working to rid yourself of internalized stigma and discover the strengths in your own particular set of sensitivities. It can mean figuring out identity beyond illness and symptoms. It can mean looking at career, education, or family goals that may have gotten lost along the way.

I take an individualized approach to your care; YOU are the expert on you. We will work together to collaborate and come up with the best possible individualized care for you.

I am based in Manhattan and provide Telehealth services to residents all over New York State.

Since 2001, I have helped individuals with varying degrees of mental illness and substance use disorders find their voices and rediscover their sense of dignity and self.

I believe we are all individuals first, and that language is an important way to change how we think about psychiatric disorders (for example, “I have bipolar disorder” as opposed to “I AM bipolar”). Letting go of self-stigmatization is critical to coming to a place of acceptance.

With the therapeutic relationship at the center of treatment, I use a range of modalities tailored to your needs, preferences and style, including: Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapy, Harm Reduction, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and Psychodynamic models.

In order to give you the support you need, I will meet with you weekly, with the flexibility to meet more frequently on occasion as needed. I can also collaborate with your other providers to provide well-rounded team care.
